Strengthening Global Quality Standards: The Sociology of Religion Study Program Participates in the ACQUIN SER Preparation Workshop

The Sociology of Religion Study Program participated in a Self-Evaluation Report (SER) Preparation Workshop as part of its preparation for ACQUIN international accreditation. This activity forms part of the university’s strategic agenda to strengthen academic quality and promote the internationalization of its study programs. The workshop was attended by 24 study programs within UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta that are currently preparing for the international accreditation process conducted by ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute), a Germany-based higher education quality assurance agency listed in the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR).

The workshop was held over two days, on January 19–20, 2026, at the Platinum Hotel Yogyakarta. The event was attended by the Head of the Sociology of Religion Study Program, Dr. Mahatva Yoga Adi Pradana, M.Sos.,, along with the Secretary of the Study Program, Hikmalisa, S.Sos., M.A., as well as other faculty members from the Sociology of Religion program.

The workshop was officially opened by the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Prof. Noorhaidi Hasan, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. In his opening remarks, the Rector emphasized that UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s involvement in ACQUIN accreditation represents a strategic step toward strengthening the internationalization of study programs, enhancing global academic reputation, and expanding international collaboration networks in the fields of education, research, and community engagement.

The workshop focused on enhancing participants’ technical and substantive understanding of Self-Evaluation Report preparation in accordance with ACQUIN standards. Topics discussed included the development of learning-outcome–based curricula, the implementation of student-centered learning, governance of student admission and academic progression, the quality of academic and administrative staff, as well as the strengthening of internal quality assurance systems and internationalization strategies in higher education.

For the Sociology of Religion Study Program, participation in this workshop constitutes part of an ongoing effort to ensure that educational delivery, program governance, academic human resources, and student services are aligned with international quality standards. The process also serves as a platform for institutional reflection and self-evaluation aimed at enhancing the quality of sociology of religion education in response to global socio-religious dynamics.
